Juliana Granzoti
MSC applied Science
Juliana is a master’s student and field researcher at CBWES with a background in Environmental Studies focused on island environments and sustainability from UPEI. Drawn to coastal systems from a young age, Juliana has had the privilege of researching algae densities in Brazil, working as a watershed manager in Prince Edward Island, and now contributing to salt marsh restoration. Her favorite part of this work is experiencing the beauty and resilience of these incredible ecosystems while supporting their recovery.
Juliana’s research is focused on assessing the effectiveness of living shorelines with marsh sills as a nature-based solution for coastal protection in Atlantic Canada. She is analyzing projects in Mahone Bay, NS, and Shippagan, NB, examining factors such as plant density, surface elevation changes, and sediment dynamics, along with adaptive management strategies and seed addition experiments. The goal is to develop sustainable approaches to enhance shoreline resilience and protect vulnerable coastal ecosystems.
