Kirsten Ellis

Coastal Adaptation specialist, CBWES Inc.

Kirsten first became engaged with the field of ecological restoration during her undergraduate degree at Dalhousie University (B.Sc. Honours) and worked on numerous small-scale habitat restoration projects throughout the Maritime Provinces following graduation in 2013. She found the restoration of coastal habitats particularly rewarding and this sparked a strong interest in coastal management, living shorelines and a desire to further her education. In 2018 she graduated from Saint Mary’s University with a Master of Applied Science with a specialization in living shorelines and nature-based approaches to shoreline management and erosion control. Later that year Kirsten joined CBWES as their Coastal Adaptation Specialist, where she supports on-going small to large scale coastal habitat restoration projects and is responsible for the development and implementation of nature-based solutions to address coastal issues. She loves learning from the knowledgeable CBWES and TransCoastal Adaptations team and the many innovative projects and partnerships they are engaged in. She is especially grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the efforts to help build resilient and sustainable coastal communities and ecosystems throughout Atlantic Canada.
