Dr. Patricia Manuel

Professor, School of Planning, Dalhousie University

Dr. Patricia Manuel is Professor of Planning in the School of Planning at Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS with a cross-appointment in the Dalhousie School of Occupational Therapy. She is also a visiting lecturer with the Coastal and Marine Management Program of the University Centre of the Westfjords, Akureyri University, Iceland. A geographer and environmental planner,  Patricia teaches and conducts applied research in environmental and community planning with focus areas in coastal planning and governace, climate change adaptation planning, wetlands and watershed interpretation and planning, and marine spatial planning. Patricia is an advisor to local and national organizations. She currently serves on the Climate Centre for Client Services Advisory Panel, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and the National Adaptation Assessment Advisory Committee and the Coastal Management Working Group, both with Natural Resources Canada. She formerly served on the Urban Heat Island Advisory Committee, Health Canada and Clean Air Partnership, the National Coastal Assessment Advisory Committee, Natural Resources Canada and the Atlantic Climate Adaptations Solutions Association Expert Panel on Climate Change Adaptation. 

Patricia is a licensed professional planner in Nova Scotia (LPPNS) and is a member of the Atlantic Planners Institute and the Canadian Institute of Planners. She serves on the board of directors of the Licensed Professional Planners Association of Nova Scotia and of Coastal Zone Canada. Together with her students, Patricia works with watershed, community planning and environmental groups to achieve environmentally sound land use planning and development.
